If you heat with Avista gas, your bill is higher now. The Oregon Public Utility Commission says a typical residential customer using 45 therms a month will pay about $5.83 more, or about 8.5%, according to KOBI. The Grants Pass Tribune puts that at $68.64 rising to $74.47.

Cold months hit harder: Avista's January example rises $11.53. Its projected natural gas commodity cost falls 17.7%, but a smaller credit for earlier collections largely offsets that. Public purpose funding adds about $2.91 a month, and a revenue adjustment called decoupling adds $2.06. PUC Chair Letha Tawney said, "The utility doesn't run a profit on these gas costs."
