COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Foster children got holiday cheer on Friday as Santa and the Grinch delivered toy bags + bicycles at the DHS office in Grants Pass, escorted by the Sheriff’s Office. This 19th annual event by Our Foster Kids, Inc. will be followed by more deliveries.  KOBI-TV
  • Residents in Southern Oregon are calling for a neighborhood reset (to boost curb appeal) as streets struggle with neglected lawns and clutter, prompting collective action to refresh homes and shared spaces.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Santa Claus visited downtown Grants Pass Friday evening for the annual tree lighting ceremony (hosted by the city) featuring 30 craft vendors, horse-drawn carriage rides, live music, and photos with Santa; the Hot Cocoa Crawl continues Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Grants Pass welcomes the holiday season with its annual Holiday Window Decorating Contest, where locals can vote for festive storefront displays from Dec. 5 through Dec. 30. Organized by the Chamber of Commerce — partnering with The Home Depot — the event supports local shops and community spirit.  The Grants Pass Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • RCC Foundation has committed $650,000 to support Rogue Community College programs in Jackson and Josephine counties as the state prepares for potential budget cuts in the next biennium — the measure will help maintain staffing levels and vital student services.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Students at Redwood Elementary now can enjoy an all-abilities playground after it was unveiled Friday afternoon by the school district. The inclusive facility, funded with nearly $300,000 from various donors (local businesses, families, and community partners), is designed for children and families.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oregon’s hospitals are set to change in early 2026 as Vibra Specialty Hospital (in Portland) stops admissions and shuts down in February and Asante ends inpatient care at Ashland, which will become a satellite campus. Rising costs and staffing challenges are forcing the system to shift care, possibly increasing travel for specialized services.  The Grants Pass Tribune
