- ➤ A local restaurant on Rogue River Highway will provide free meals to children every Wednesday through Sunday starting November 1 during the federal government shutdown to ease financial strain on families. The Mixed Grill will offer a choice of a grilled cheese sandwich with French fries or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with French fries—no paperwork is needed. The Grants Pass Tribune
- ➤ The City of Grants Pass is asking residents to share ideas for the future of the underused Fly Fishing Practice Pond at Reinhart Volunteer Park—options include a community garden, natural playground, outdoor fitness court, or no change—and officials will review survey results next to make a recommendation to the City Council. - ➤ In Grants Pass, the annual Main Street Monster March takes over downtown from (3 to 5 p.m.) today as local shops give candy to kids in costumes. Other regions host safe trick-or-treat events for families later this evening. KOBI-TV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Grants Pass Fire crews responded Tuesday to a building fire in the 600 block of SE 7th Street at about 11:30 a.m.—bystanders called 9-1-1 and used fire extinguishers to slow the flames, and firefighters put out the blaze within 10 minutes as officials said an overloaded electrical outlet started the fire. - ➤ Grants Pass High School Theatre is set to present HONK! Jr., a musical adaptation of The Ugly Duckling, running from November 14 to November 23 at the GPHS Performing Arts Center and involving high school and middle school students. - ➤ Southern Oregon University's Schneider Museum of Art faces uncertainty as new budget cuts cancel its funding and halt an $8 million rebuild—Executive Director Scott Malbaurn said the museum now relies on private donations for staff, exhibits, and community programs. - ➤ Construction crews began work on Hillcrest Drive in Grants Pass on October 29 and have closed the road between 9th Street and Beacon Drive daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until April 30 to fix pavement, drains, and sidewalks—drivers are advised to follow detour routes and plan for delays. - ➤ Open enrollment for insurance plans through the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace opens Saturday, and many will see less financial help as premium tax credits expire. The state said more than 111000 marketplace customers could face higher premiums next year if tax credits are not extended and it has upgraded its online Window Shopping Tool — with updated savings estimates and easier plan comparisons.
