CULTURE NEWS

  • The Grants Pass Dance Club has been stepping and twirling for over 30 years — it brings local dancers together through ongoing events that celebrate its long tradition.  Rogue River Press
  • Southern Oregon is getting ready for Halloween with spooky history at the Wolf Creek Inn—known as the oldest continually operating inn in the Pacific Northwest—where guests can hear tales of past settlers and eerie events. Visitors can also explore Golden ghost town’s four remaining buildings, and NBC5 will soon partner with Medford Paranormal Investigators on a paranormal investigation.  KOBI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After months of planning, the Wards Creek Restoration project removed invasive blackberry overgrowth that choked the creek's natural flow. Project coordinator Niki Mur said the completed step will let the creek flow naturally and set the stage for more work.  Rogue River Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal government shutdown will pause SNAP benefits for over 42 million Americans, including 750,000 Oregonians, starting this weekend. Local food banks in Klamath Falls have seen a 35% surge in pantry visits and are asking for cash donations & shelf-stable food items to help families.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Shady Cove resident fighting leukemia is trying to grow a 2,000-pound pumpkin from his White City garden using a donated Godzilla seed. He will plant the seed in March and works daily on his patch despite fatigue from chemotherapy.  KDRV
  • Emma Suetta, an 11-year-old from Greenview with cystinosis, was honored at the American Kidney Fund’s Hope Affair in Washington, D.C. for raising awareness about the rare disease and for publishing a dessert cookbook to support research (she follows a strict daily treatment routine).  KDRV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior Malachi Scott replaced the starting quarterback on Oct. 25, rushing for six yards and catching a second-half touchdown pass in a 60-22 win over Bonanza. The win moved the Chieftains one step closer to the playoffs.  Rogue River Press
  • The Rogue River girls' soccer team finished its best season since 2010 when it reached the state semifinals and now awaits an opponent for its first state playoff game in 15 years+.  Rogue River Press
