COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Grants Pass residents can join a Fall Tree Walk organized by the Parks and Recreation Department at Reinhart Volunteer Park on October 18th at 10 a.m., led by urban forester Chris Delk—attendees will explore a mile of paved and unpaved trails to learn about local trees and enjoy autumn’s colors.  The Grants Pass Tribune

  • Rentec Direct in Grants Pass was named on the Inc. 5000 list for the ninth year in a row as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. Co-owner Kaycee Miller said the company stays loyal to the Rogue Valley by supporting local talent with its Tech Mastery Scholarship.  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Croxton Park in Grants Pass has a hidden past—Reverend Thomas Croxton donated the land in 1857 for a cemetery that later suffered vandalism and was rededicated as a park in 1976 during the Bicentennial. One notable story from the park recounts BH Baird’s legendary fight with a grizzly bear.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Grants Pass announced the fall open burn window after fire season ended on October 14th — all public burn restrictions were lifted — and local firefighters responded to 48 grass fires and three other incidents this season.  Rogue River Press
  • The Oregon Department of Human Services began mailing notices on Oct. 15 to households that applied for SNAP benefits between July 4 and Sept. 30 because a new federal law requires changes that will affect over 313,000 Oregonians. Benefit cuts, utility allowance adjustments and new work rules will take effect on Nov. 1 with further changes rolling out through next year—ODHS is working with local partners to help affected families.  Medford Alert
