CULTURE NEWS

  • Grants Pass will host the 22nd annual Art Along the Rogue chalk art festival today through Sunday—where artists will create large murals on H Street and Fifth Street. In addition, Ashland will hold the Southern Oregon Pride Festival with an art walk today and a parade on Saturday—culminating at Lithia Park Bandshell with local food and music.  KOBI-TV
  • Downtown Grants Pass is alive with art and community creativity today as the city hosts October's First Friday and Art Along the Rogue. The Grants Pass Museum of Art debuts its Fire — Smoke exhibit and Dwight Knight will perform a free show at Cowboy Corral at 5:30 p.m., previewing new songs inspired by local life.  KDRV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Thursday, the Oregon Department of Education released the 2024—25 Oregon Statewide Assessment System scores showing improved performance in Math, English Language Arts, and Science with a rise in student participation; overall achievement remains below pre-pandemic levels but this boost marks the first increase in all subjects since testing resumed after the pandemic.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grants Pass residents will hear city leaders when Mayor Sara Bristol Scherf and Council President Victoria Marshall appear on KAJO 99.7 FM at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7—officials will take live call-ins to discuss key city issues.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • A public hearing to review a zoning change, the vacation of a property line, and the addition of eight rental spaces—at a mobile home park off East Main Street—was postponed after the applicant asked for a delay.  Rogue River Press
  • Oregon Department of Human Services says changes to the SNAP program will roll out gradually in 2026 and affect over 313,000 people, including households with utility assistance, able-bodied adults without young children, and certain immigrants. Local food banks face a 27% rise in pantry visits—raising concerns about meeting increased demand as SNAP benefits change.  KOBI-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Rogue River Jr. Sr. High football team had their trip to Prospect cancelled on Sept. 24 so they played Oakdale in Medford and won 54-0 — a quick change that proved successful.  Rogue River Press
  • The American Cornhole Organization announced that the Medford Major tournament will be held at Rogue X from October 9—11 and will feature both professional and amateur players competing for rankings, cash prizes, and qualifiers for the ACO World Championships. Registration is open now and spectators are invited to attend the event for free.  KOBI-TV
  • The Rogue River Jr. Sr. High football team won 52-0 against Monroe and now faces a challenging non-league schedule. The team will play a road game against a Northern California opponent—testing the Chieftains' strength ahead of future matches.  Rogue River Press
