- ➤ Yesterday, Hillcrest Village in Grants Pass held a groundbreaking for a new affordable housing community for veterans that will offer 36 units—18 reserved for veterans—with in-unit washers, dryers, AC and efficient fixtures, and rents set for those earning about 32K annually. Construction will be completed in late 2026 by nonprofit Mid Rogue Foundation and its partners. KOBI-TV

- ➤ Starbucks will close many stores this month and cut 900 corporate jobs as part of a plan to lower its North American store count — including its Grants Pass store at 120 NE Hillcrest Drive. KDRV

- ➤ A FedEx driver, Chris Matthews, saved a 3-year-old girl from a dog attack by two Cane Corso dogs on Wagon Trail Dr. in Jacksonville last December—he was later honored with a Lifesaving Award from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office after the girl made a full recovery. KOBI-TV

- ➤ Oregon wildlife managers are urging hunters to test deer and elk for Chronic Wasting Disease—tests will help detect the disease early and slow its spread. Rogue River Press

- ➤ Josephine County Commissioners sent a modified lease proposal to the local library that changes the annual payment to $1,453 with a one-time fee while shifting roof repairs to the county—Library Director Kate Lasky said the board will reject any no-cause termination clause and may discuss the matter at next week’s administrative session.
