GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ U.S. Rep. Cliff Bentz has stopped holding in-person town halls because activists disrupted his meetings and now holds virtual sessions to discuss local topics such as rural health care and federal spending. - ➤ Tensions rose as county officials claimed on September 15 that a lease with the community library was approved — the county said amendments were delivered while library supporters argued that key sections were removed and no agreement was final. Commissioner Chris Barnett reiterated the lease on September 17, but past votes and conflicting statements show that disagreements over the lease remain unresolved. The Grants Pass Tribune
- ➤ The Oregon Attorney General warned Southern Oregon SNAP users that card skimming devices on payment terminals at grocery and convenience stores are stealing funds needed for food — officials reported that losses in early September left families at increased risk since stolen benefits are not replaced. This threat could impact both local households and businesses as the scam continues to grow. The Grants Pass Tribune
