- ➤ On Friday, September 12, the Josephine County Fairgrounds will host the Southern Oregon Senior Resource Fair, a free, daylong event featuring a Veteran Recognition Ceremony at 10 a.m.—and a Disaster Preparedness Event at 1 p.m. aimed at providing seniors and families with vital services and information. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Seven earthquakes ranging from magnitude 2.7 to 5.8 hit the Southern Oregon Coast overnight near the Juan de Fuca Plate—Brian Nieuwenhuis with the National Weather Service in Medford said they did not pose any danger because of their depth and distance from shore. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek signed an executive order on Monday directing agencies to develop seismic safety plans for key buildings. KOBI-TV
- ➤ The Oregon Department of Forestry lowered fire danger today from extreme to high across 1.8 million acres in Jackson and Josephine counties as cooler weather and rain eased some fire restrictions. Spark-emitting equipment such as chainsaws and lawn mowers can now be used before 10 a.m. and after 8 p.m.—but debris burning and fireworks remain banned. KOBI-TV

- ➤ In Grants Pass, resident Michael Servant disputes the city’s handling of a homeless camp on 5th and 6th streets—he argues that managing the site violates nuisance codes, while officials say public property is treated differently. The dispute has increased police reviews and sparked calls for stricter oversight as neighborhood disruptions continue and the camp is set to remain until at least June 2026. The Grants Pass Tribune

- ➤ The Rogue Valley Timbers Soccer Club will start Silent Saturday in early October to keep games quiet and let players focus on the field—Executive Director David Horst, who recently returned after a family break, said the change will support more than 150 volunteer-run teams—ensuring fun and safe play for local kids.
