Local animal shelters struggle with a steep rise in cat rescues as nonprofits face eight-month waitlists for spay/neuter services (Rogue Community Cat Rescue) and nearly 600 intakes at Josephine County Shelter.
They plan a mobile clinic and community events like Wine and Whiskers on Sept. 17.
Families, biologists and community volunteers will enjoy See Our Salmon & Friends on Saturday, Sept.
12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. as they learn about salmon and river life at the Bureau of Land Management recreation area (14171 Williams Highway, 15 miles southeast of Grants Pass).

On Tuesday, Sept. 8, Oregon saw a sharp rise in diesel prices with Grants Pass averaging $6.382 per gallon, nearly 80 cents higher than last month.
The increase is expected to raise costs for local transportation and agriculture businesses.
🏛️ Government
Wildfire suppression costs are surging across Southern Oregon as state officials work to secure extra funds for fire crews.
The Department of Forestry will ask for ($77.9M in emergency funds and $250M in spending authority) while the Emergency Board reviews the request Sept. 10.

Two Southern Oregon hospitals were nationally recognized on Tuesday, Sept.
8, for quality care (patient service and community access) from Forbes and U.S. News. Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center and Asante Three Rivers Medical Center serve urban and rural communities in Medford, Grants Pass, and beyond.
