COMMUNITY NEWS

  • NewsWatch 12 will air a special edition —Five Years of Resilience— tonight at 8:15 p.m. to remember the Almeda and Obenchain fires that devastated Jackson County on September 8 and to show the community's ongoing rebuilding efforts.  KDRV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Multiple law enforcement agencies are working to extract an occupied vehicle from the Rogue River near the Valley of the Rogue boat ramp—authorities report a possible vehicle fatality.  KDRV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Jerry's Rogue Jets and Mail Boats from Gold Beach is assisting fire fighters fighting Blossom Bar and Paradise Bar fires—this effort is taking place along the Rogue River in Curry County.  KDRV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Grants Pass is recruiting full-time firefighters with a salary range of $69,646 to $88,888 and requires local residency within 45 minutes of key stations. Testing must be completed by September 26 and interviews are scheduled for October 6 and 7 with new hires planned to start on January 5 — ensuring the department meets its service needs.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Commissioner Chris Barnett’s recall campaign is under scrutiny after he allegedly published false statements about county programs and budgets through his self-funded media channels—county records show that 4-H has not been restored and discrepancies remain over the sheriff’s budget and library lease.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • The City of Grants Pass announced the street sweeping schedule for the week beginning September 7 with cleaning in Zone 13 on Monday, no sweeping today, sweeping in Zone 3 on Wednesday, and Zone 8 on Thursday—residents in the affected areas are asked to move their vehicles and trash bins to help crews work efficiently while weather may delay the service.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • On September 17, the Oregon Senate will vote on House Bill 3991 — a bill that would raise the gas tax from 40 cents to 46 cents per gallon and increase vehicle fees and the payroll transit tax to make up for a $290 million shortfall at the Department of Transportation. If passed, the bill will generate about $4.3 billion over ten years — a change that may raise monthly costs for households and small businesses.  The Grants Pass Tribune
