- ➤ September is Hunger Action Month and the county food bank is urging the community to help as rising costs and cuts to federal aid push more residents into food insecurity—1 in every 5 local residents used food services last year. The food bank will host events starting on September 13, including a Race for Hunger and food drives to support those in need. KOBI-TV
- ➤ Noah Anderson, working at Albertsons on Allen Creek Road, performed CPR in July when a man collapsed and went into cardiac arrest, and his quick actions likely saved the man's life—firefighters later awarded him a plaque and challenge coin. Anderson urged others to learn CPR to be prepared for emergencies. KOBI-TV

- ➤ Today, the Oregon Employment Department released its latest data showing job growth in Salem and small gains in Medford, but job numbers in Grants Pass dropped the most (a notable local shift). The report shows that transportation and health care jobs are growing (transportation up 7% and health care up 10%) while manufacturing, retail, and other sectors continue to decline since the COVID-19 pandemic. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Grants Pass resident filed a public records request on August 7 for commissioner emails, and on September 3 the county replied that it did not possess the records—even though Commissioner Ron Smith later released emails showing threatening messages from former commissioner John West. The revelations have prompted calls for investigations by the District Attorney, state ethics officials, and possibly federal agencies to address the potential misconduct. The Grants Pass Tribune
- ➤ Former Josephine County Commissioner John West is ordered to pay over $28,000 in attorney fees to Lily Morgan after a judge ruled that he lost five of six claims in his suit alleging false statements during his recall campaign—Morgan led the petition that removed him from office. He is set to appeal the remaining claim regarding funding for public safety and public health. KOBI-TV
- ➤ Oregon Housing and Community Services has committed $291 million to build 1,171 affordable homes statewide, including the Grants Pass Allenwood Apartments project that will help older adults, veterans, and families exiting homelessness. The Housing Stability Council approved the funding, and local partners will use LIFT and PSH programs to start construction soon. KDRV
- ➤ The Bureau of Land Management Grants Pass Field Office closed a portion of the Grave Creek to Marial Backcountry Byway today due to the Kelsey Peak Fire—BLM Road 32-9-14.2 is off-limits to keep firefighters and the public safe. KDRV
