Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 25th of August.
Good morning, Grants Pass.
🏘️ Community
An anonymous donation of $390,000 has enabled the Boys and Girls Clubs to expand teen services by funding a new bus, van, and updates to aging vehicles.
The funds also support the new Grants Pass Teen Center (set to open in January) to boost local youth transportation.
Today, PATH will host its general meeting at City Council Chambers from 3 to 5 p.m. to discuss homelessness programs, offer a food drive and networking session, and hear a community update with AllCare Health’s Leah Swanson — inviting local organizations and residents to share ideas for support.
🚧 Accidents
Firefighters stopped a 1.5-acre grass fire along East Evans Creek Road Monday afternoon by surrounding the flames with hose and using helicopters to drop water amid critical fire weather conditions; they remain on scene to mop up residual heat.
🌲 Environment
A Public Information Officer said the entire ODF Southwest District is under extreme fire restrictions today, prohibiting the use of power-driven tools (1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) to help prevent sparks from igniting dry vegetation.
The department urged residents to report any potential fire starts promptly.
🏈 Sports
On Friday, Aug. 28, hundreds of cyclists will arrive in Grants Pass and Jacksonville for five days of noncompetitive rides through local river corridors and vineyards, with basecamps offering meals, entertainment, and full support (Cycle Oregon guides riders along paved and gravel routes).
