- ➤ Two Texas men were sentenced in Josephine County for armed robbery from charges in March 2022 — they planned to dress as DEA agents to steal 200 pounds of cannabis, with Lopez receiving 64 months and Conchas 40 months in jail. KOBI-TV

- ➤ Southern Oregon families can save money on back-to-school shopping by planning early at stores like Walmart and Amazon+ they compare prices, buy in bulk, reuse supplies, and join local school swap events to cut costs. The Grants Pass Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Grants Pass officials and police issued citations to campers in city parks after a disability rights lawsuit was dismissed—campers at Baker and Kesterson Parks must leave within 72 hours while Riverside Park remains exempt. City sources said displaced campers can use resting sites on Fifth, Sixth, and A Streets for 96 hours. KDRV
- ➤ Sen. Ron Wyden postponed his Josephine County town hall in Grants Pass on Monday when protesters disrupted the event at Rogue Community College's gymnasium — preventing 250 attendees from speaking; officials have not set a new date yet. KDRV
- ➤ Oregon passed House Bill 3644 that creates a permanent statewide shelter system to help people who are homeless and gives local groups new tasks to set up temporary housing. The law sets rules by early 2026 and calls for regional plans, + it commits roughly $205 million over the next two years. The Grants Pass Tribune
- ➤ Josephine County residents can apply to become reserve firefighters with Rural Metro Fire under a part-time call-back program that begins training in January—testing starts in October. - ➤ The City of Grants Pass is inviting residents to apply for two volunteer committees: the Urban Tree Advisory Committee has two two-year spots with applications due by 5 p.m. on October 10, and the Grants Pass and Josephine County Bikeways and Walkways Committee offers a three-year term with applications due by 5 p.m. on October 3. The city will review applications on October 13 and October 14, and the City Council will appoint selected members on November 5 (applications are available at the City Administration Office at 101 N.W.
