ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Tuesday, the Oregon Department of Forestry reported that fire danger in Jackson and Josephine counties will rise to extreme because dry vegetation, hot windy conditions, and dangerous fire behavior increase the risk of fires. New rules prohibit power saws, cutting metal, and burning debris on 1.8 million acres of state, private, county, city, and BLM lands to help lower the risk. KOBI-TV
- ➤ Firefighters from multiple agencies contained a wildfire just over 2½ acres east of Cave Junction Saturday evening, stopping the flames from reaching nearby homes. Crews used ground units + air support to build containment lines and mop up hot spots while cautioning drivers along the roadways. Medford Alert
- ➤ A National Weather Service extreme heat warning has led to cooling shelters opening today—Access Weather Shelter in Medford and Mint Cooling Center in Grants Pass offer safe spots with set hours. Officials advise residents to stay hydrated and seek air-conditioned relief as temperatures are expected to hit triple digits later today. KDRV
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Many Southern Oregon families add a teen driver to their current car policy because standalone coverage for new drivers is often unavailable or much more expensive, with premiums rising by 50% or more. Families try to lower costs by keeping a safe driving record, earning good grades, and joining usage-based insurance programs—tools that can reduce rates over time. The Grants Pass Tribune
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ Caveman Pool opened on June 24 after a brief delay for a new accessibility lift and now offers affordable swim options with wide lanes for laps while the YMCA provides a climate-controlled indoor pool for those who want to avoid the heat—local families can choose the option that suits them best today.
