Good morning, Grants Pass. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 6th of August.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Young entrepreneurs in Grants Pass will set up lemonade stands this Saturday, August 9th from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. as part of Lemonade Day, the final stage of a month-long business program run by the Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce that teaches planning, pricing and money management. Local residents are invited to visit stands across town to sample a variety of lemonades.  The Grants Pass Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Back-to-school season has begun as students in Grants Pass prepare for classes on August 26 and August 27, with sixth grade and high school starting on the 26th and middle school on the 27th. Families are shopping for supplies, school clothes, and scheduling necessary health appointments — local stores and doctors are busy ahead of the school year.  The Grants Pass Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • During a recent workshop, the City Council discussed the homelessness grant RFP process where only the highest-scoring proposal is shared and details of other applications remain confidential (full scoring details are released only after a final award). Council members may request additional background on the scoring before the winning proposal—set to be presented on or after today—is finalized (this may lead to changes that improve transparency).  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Edgar M. Pelfrey resigned from the Grants Pass Budget Committee late Tuesday night ahead of today’s council meeting after public outcry over his controversial social media posts. His resignation ends plans for his potential removal while federal authorities have begun reviewing his remarks — raising questions about conduct in public service.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Residents raised concerns about Grants Pass City Council's transparency after a recent workshop on the homelessness grant process, where only the top-scoring applicant was reviewed for a potential $1.2 million award — Toni Webb’s email and other posts call for clearer rules and more complete scoring details. Critics say this approach limits public debate and trust as officials prepare to make a high-stakes decision.  The Grants Pass Tribune
