Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 27th of July.
Good morning, Grants Pass.
Joseph Larue, a former Josephine County resident with a long criminal record, missed his July 18 court appearance in Humboldt County for felony case CR2403294 — his court-appointed attorney was absent due to medical issues — leading the judge to cancel the July 25 hearing and reschedule it for July 31 while additional charges and a habeas corpus petition remain pending.
Starting today, Southern Oregon faces rising heat, dry conditions, and smoky skies from wildfires out-of-state (with highs from the mid-90s to low 100s in Medford, Grants Pass, and Ashland).
Travelers and locals should be cautious on I-5 and other roads as glare and wind shifts may affect visibility and congestion.
Josephine County named Dustin Calvo as its new treasurer after the Board of Commissioners appointed him at a Tuesday meeting—he had served as deputy treasurer after Mark DeYoung resigned last month.
Calvo will serve the rest of the term until voters elect a new treasurer in early 2027.
