  • This weekend in Southern Oregon, Medford’s Rogue X hosts the Meadowlark Comic Con — a pop culture event for local fans, while Roseburg Public Library holds Harry Potter Day today from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Today, Bonanza Days begin at Big Springs Park with a 10:00 a.m. parade — featuring local vendors and fun activities, and fair season continues with Curry and Coos County fairs through today, Josephine County fair starting next Wednesday in Grants Pass, and Klamath County fair starting next Thursday in Klamath Falls.  KOBI-TV
  • Mt. Ashland hosted its Summer Concert Series yesterday when Yak Attack played lively music for families and visitors in the mountains. The gates opened at 4:30 p.m. with tickets at $15 and free entry for children five and under — refreshments came from the T-Bar Lounge.  The Grants Pass Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Grants Pass School Board approved a new library policy Tuesday with a unanimous vote of six to zero after months of debate over censorship concerns. The policy requires a 25-day waiting period before new books are available to students and bans books labeled obscene, pervasively vulgar or pornographic—pending re-approval before taking effect.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Josephine County fear local officials are using intimidation tactics—such as suing and public shaming—to silence criticism. Critics say this misuse of power has created a climate of fear and promise that further actions for accountability will follow.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Governor Kotek paused proposed rule changes for farm stands after Southern Oregon farmers voiced concerns over stricter rules—she has directed the DLCD to reassess its timeline and plans to increase public input in future decisions.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • The Josephine County Board of Commissioners will meet at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4 at the Anne Basker Auditorium in Grants Pass to review new rules limiting licensed marijuana grow sites to one per 7,500 adults over 21 — a major drop from current levels — while residents can join the live stream or send in comments. The board will decide on the proposed changes during or soon after the hearing.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Grants Pass Fire Rescue celebrated Jesse Wostenberg’s promotion to Captain as he marked nearly twenty years of service — he played a key role in training new recruits and improving emergency response efforts.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Governor Tina Kotek signed House Bill 3644 into law—Oregon's first permanent statewide shelter program—to help southern Oregon fight homelessness. The law provides nearly $205 million over two years and sets goals to keep over 4,800 shelter beds, rehouse 3,300 households, and aid nearly 24,000 people as OHCS organizes regional services starting January 1.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • The Josephine Community Library board paused lease negotiations with Josephine County after months of legal review and community dialogue at a July 23 meeting in Grants Pass. The board will hold no further meetings until County Commissioners review the draft lease on August 14 at 10 a.m.—community members are encouraged to attend the session.  The Grants Pass Tribune
