CRIME NEWS

  • Last Friday, the Josephine County Marijuana Enforcement Team, with support from the FBI + DEA, shut down an illegal marijuana grow on Rocky Dale Road in Cave Junction by destroying over 3,600 marijuana plants and uncovering code violations that may lead to property forfeiture as several suspects are under investigation.  KOBI-TV
  • Oregon State Police are seeking information on David Brian Scott, 50, of Grants Pass who was arrested on June 18 on the 600 block of SW Balsam Road for charges including rape, three counts of sodomy, unlawful sexual penetration, attempted sodomy and sex abuse while he is held in the Josephine County Jail, and anyone with information should call the Southern Command Center at 1 800 4422068 with case number (SP25 340600).  KDRV
  • A man was returned to Oregon to face a murder charge connected to a long-unsolved case after over 40 years since a Josephine County woman's disappearance.  Rogue River Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Redwood Foundation for Education awarded $385,000 in grants to nine local organizations supporting early education in Josephine County — including a $250,000 award to Oregon Center for Creative Learning. The center is converting a former Dutch Bros headquarters into a Children's Museum and preschool campus set to open in Fall 2025.  KDRV
  • Rogue River Junior Senior High School has enforced a no-cell phone policy during school hours—started by former principal Dan Smith—and the school board today is reviewing the rule as students already have access to phones during breaks.  Rogue River Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Josephine County will hold a public hearing on Monday, August 4 at 2:00 p.m. in Grants Pass to gather input on proposed amendments to marijuana business land use codes—residents have few details about how the changes might affect enforcement.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Grants Pass residents can join a live radio segment when Councilors Joel King and Rob Pell take questions on KAJO 99.7 FM at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5 to discuss local community issues—creating a direct forum for public input. HEALTH NEWS

  • Kairos Northwest finished a $3.2 million renovation at its Jackson Services outpatient facility at 10 Crater Lake Avenue in Medford to improve mental health care for youth and families, and it will host a grand re-opening on July 31 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.—with a ribbon-cutting set for 12:30 p.m.—that includes guided tours of the updated space.  The Grants Pass Tribune
