- ➤ Maslow Project in Medford has launched a mobile services van — active for about two months — to deliver on-site internet, solar power, basic care items, and case management that support unhoused youth and families in Jackson and Josephine counties. KOBI-TV

- ➤ Southern Oregon Sanitation raised its rate by 4.3% on June 1 to cover higher costs for fuel, insurance, labor and equipment. Residents across Josephine County now face rising utility bills and concerns over missed collections — with more hikes possible as Grants Pass starts its new water treatment plant project. - ➤ Clackamas Community College President Tim Cook is running across Oregon for 50 days to support community college students facing food, housing, and homelessness challenges. He was greeted by Rogue Community College on his 25th day this morning and has run nearly 700 miles while raising about $80,000 to help fund relief efforts. KOBI-TV
- ➤ The Ivy School is now accepting enrollment for its new preschool in Grants Pass as it expands services to Josephine County. The school took over a nearly $3 million Dutch Bros-donated property from downtown Grants Pass last year — applications are already flooding in with spots filling up fast. KOBI-TV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Complex Incident Management Team took command of the Grizzly Complex and Neil Creek Road Fire near Ashland as crews fought 72 lightning-caused fires across Jackson and Josephine counties+ they maintained travel restrictions on I-5. More than 1,300 firefighters and heavy aircraft support completed dozer line work and mop-up operations+ crews faced challenges from high temperatures, strong winds and rugged terrain. Medford Alert

- ➤ The City of Grants Pass opened its 2025 Tourism Promotion Grant program to boost sustainable tourism with funding between $2,500 and $5,000. Eligible organizations and event planners must submit proposals online by August 12 — projects highlighting recurring events, outdoor recreation, cultural heritage, community activities, or agritourism are encouraged. - ➤ Shady Cove got a new mayor after a special meeting ended with resignations of former mayor Jon Ball and councilor Kathryn Nuckles amid claims of administrator incompetence. Lena Richardson—who once served as mayor—was elected by councilors Steve Mitchell and Paige Winfrey, and the council seat is open for applications until August 20th. KOBI-TV
- ➤ Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley is introducing two new bills this week: one to support wildfire reduction efforts with a $30 billion fund and another to boost the timber industry by offering low interest loans for processing facilities.
