COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Josephine County Children’s Advocacy Center in downtown Grants Pass will become a full nonprofit when county commissioners approved the change, effective July 1—opening the path to seek new funding. The center, which has treated abused children since 1989, will change its name to Children’s Advocacy Center of Josephine County and use the funds to hire more staff and expand therapy services.  KOBI-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A two-car crash in the Fruitdale neighborhood on Friday morning caused one car to catch fire near Gordon Way at about 10:24 a.m., forcing Rural Metro Fire, Grants Pass Fire and AMR to respond and take one driver with serious injuries to a hospital as the highway was briefly shut down (OSP is investigating the crash).  KDRV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Rogue Valley Council of Governments reported that routine water tests found elevated bacteria levels in parts of the Bear Creek Watershed — including Walker Creek at Dead Indian Memorial Road and Bear Creek from Suncrest Road to Fern Valley Road. Health officials said people should avoid swimming and water contact due to risks from pet waste, wild animals, and leaking septic systems.  KOBI-TV
