- ➤ Southern Oregon entrepreneurs in Jackson and Josephine counties can now apply for RCC’s SBDC’s Small Business Management Program for 2025—26, a nine-month course that begins on October 7 at RCC’s Table Rock campus with classes from 2 to 5 p.m. The first 20 applicants receive a $300 scholarship that cuts tuition to $318—an offer aimed at keeping expert coaching accessible for local business owners. - ➤ The Oregon State Marine Board and law enforcement agencies will launch Operation Dry Water from July 4th—6th to check boaters for alcohol, drugs, or marijuana, and impaired operators may face jail time, fines over $6,000, or loss of boating privileges to prevent boating deaths and injuries. - ➤ Two Rogue Valley wines earned international awards at the Decanter World Wine Awards as Del Rio Vineyard’s Lake Haute Pinot Noir from Gold Hill won a bronze medal and Agathodaemon Wine’s Egan Vineyard Viognier from Talent received a silver medal + the region is nominated for USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Award for Best Wine Region with voting open through Monday, July 21. - ➤ The commission met at Tax Lot 1500 at the intersection of Foothill Blvd. and West Evans Creek Road to discuss PUD rules during its first meeting in a month—this meeting came after the Rogue River City Council denied the planning commission's recommendation. The board aims to set clear guidelines for the proposed development. Rogue River Press
- ➤ At its June 19 meeting, the Evans Valley Fire District Board of Directors approved a budget of $2,699,051 for the fiscal year 2025 to 26—and district chief Tom Davidson said the board also received a $35,000 grant. Rogue River Press
- ➤ The board suspended the library’s one-dollar lease on January 6, forcing the library district to plan to leave the county-owned building by December. The decision has sparked a political fight and public anger — residents and former officials are urging commissioners to fix the issue soon. The Grants Pass Tribune
- ➤ House Bill 2005 passed in the House with a vote of 38 to 1 and will soon change mental health rules in Southern Oregon. The law lets judges mandate care earlier and streamlines zoning to add needed facilities—while also setting new guidelines for mental health cases in the justice system and providing extra funds for crisis services.
