- ➤ On Monday, local volunteers — including 12 Edward Jones administrative staff — gave the Josephine Community Library a facelift with fresh mulch, tree trimming and new plantings to improve the grounds for summer visitors. - ➤ The captain and crew of Hellgate Jet Boat rescued a woman found face up in the Rogue River Friday morning. The boat left the dock for a brunch trip when the captain spotted her and guests helped pull her aboard before paramedics took her ashore. KOBI-TV
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Tax season ended and local residents are now getting an average refund near $3,000, IRS data shows. Many in Jackson, Josephine, and Douglas counties who filed electronically and used direct deposit got their money within three weeks — paper filers may wait longer. The Grants Pass Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ After county commissioners ended the library's lease on January 6, staff and patrons have faced growing uncertainty, and Friends of the Library will launch Eviction Watch on Thursday, June 5—marking the start of a 210-day countdown until the county can legally evict the library. The Grants Pass Tribune
- ➤ The Oregon House passed HB 3582 which gives child sexual abuse and sexual assault survivors unlimited time to sue their abusers or institutions that enabled the abuse—current law required survivors to file by age 40 or within five years of connecting the abuse to their harm. The bill does not apply to past cases and now heads to the state Senate for further review. KDRV
- ➤ Josephine Community Transit has updated its route schedules to serve local travel better, with fixed routes now running Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Route 10 operating every 30 minutes until 7:00 p.m.—the update also includes expanded commuter routes and on-demand booking for late-evening trips. - ➤ Volunteer firefighter Aisha Mayers' 15 year old son suffered a brain aneurysm on May 30 and was declared brain dead, and his family chose to donate his organs — a decision that honors his life. The Applegate Fire District launched a GoFundMe page — asking the community to help with funeral expenses and living costs. KDRV
