CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Elisha Young, 38, accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Eugene Weekly, was arrested in early May during a traffic stop in Whitehall, Ohio—state officials declined to extradite her, leaving the Lane County case open and raising concerns among local justice advocates. The Grants Pass Tribune

- ➤ Janelle Butterfield, a 34-year-old woman with schizophrenia, died in 2018 after her medication was stopped abruptly at Josephine County Jail, and her family filed a wrongful death lawsuit alleging negligence against the county and the for profit provider Wellpath. Wellpath later settled with her family, filed for bankruptcy in November 2024, and emerged from restructuring under new ownership by today—while the lawsuit against the county continues.
