  • Wildlife Images Rehabilitation and Education Center will offer Camp EEK! summer programs that feature week-long animal-themed sessions for kids aged 5 to 11—starting with Wildlife Kingdom the week of June 16. Executive Director Dave Siddon brought animal ambassador Peter the Opossum to Sunrise today to preview the camp and explain how each session will engage children.  KOBI-TV
  • A bill that would ban cell phone use in schools died on Wednesday after it failed to advance to the Senate Rules Committee—Governor Tina Kotek is exploring executive action to revive the proposal.  KOBI-TV

  • Today, Southern Oregon experiences summer-like heat with bright skies and highs reaching 91°F in Medford while road construction on Oregon Route 99 near Rogue River may cause travel delays. Forecasts show cooler skies Sunday and a mini heatwave on Tuesday and Wednesday that prompt extra caution for fire risks — urging residents to prepare for changing conditions.  The Grants Pass Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • F-15 Eagle jets from the 173rd Fighter Wing will perform Memorial Day flyovers on Monday, May 26 to honor fallen service members by flying over several Southern Oregon locations including Veterans Park in Klamath Falls, Roseburg National Cemetery, and Riverside Park in Grants Pass. Flight times range from 10:55 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. and may change with weather.  KDRV
  • The City of Grants Pass will begin its fire season on June 1 at 12:01 a.m. with a low danger rating, triggering restrictions such as a ban on smoking in areas with flammable vegetation—residents must follow guidelines when using power tools that can spark fires.  The Grants Pass Tribune
