ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ BLM and U.S. Wildland Fire Service placed restrictions on public lands in Southwest Oregon starting May 15 to lower fire risks. The rules require visitors to have equipment for campfires, vehicle travel, and power saws (and to avoid fireworks and smoking) on BLM lands. KDRV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, community members and law enforcement gathered at the courthouse steps in downtown Grants Pass to honor fallen officers during National Police Week—Commissioner Colene Martin read the official proclamation and Sheriff Dave Daniel addressed the crowd. The Grants Pass Tribune
- ➤ Fire season began at 12:01 a.m. today on lands managed by the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District in Jackson and Josephine counties, and new rules now ban debris burning and fireworks near protected areas while allowing campfires in designated sites with specific safety measures.
