COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Grants Pass is partnering with the Coast Guard Auxiliary to host a National Safe Boating Week event on May 17 at Baker Park Boat Ramp from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will offer free vessel safety inspections (free check-ups) and demonstrations of modern life jacket options (updated gear) to help boaters and families stay safe on the water.  The Grants Pass Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • Zachery Williams, 29, was arrested on DUII charges after a hit and run was reported near Southeast 7th and Southeast K streets at 3:30 p.m.+ witnesses tracked him until his car crashed and got stuck on boulders at Southwest 4th and Southwest Bridge streets.  KOBI-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Southern Oregon Sanitation announced a 4.3% rate increase effective June 1 to cover rising costs for fuel, insurance, labor and equipment — its second hike in 12 months. Many in Grants Pass worry that this change adds stress to their already tight budgets.  The Grants Pass Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grants Pass City will hold a Listening and Learning Session on Monday, May 19 at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall to discuss HB 3115, which sets ‘objectively reasonable’ limits on public property use by unhoused individuals—residents are invited to attend and submit questions.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • The City of Grants Pass reminded property owners to trim trees and shrubs in public rights-of-way so that sidewalks, street signs, and drainage remain clear—residents are urged to inspect their property and report issues. City officials say these measures help maintain safety for pedestrians, drivers, and cyclists as vegetation grows this spring.  The Grants Pass Tribune
