CRIME NEWS

  • A 20-year-old woman named Kassandrea Sinks was arrested on Monday after a Thursday fight at Baker Park where she allegedly cut another woman's ear with a large army-style knife—she now faces charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.  KOBI-TV
  • Police ended a standoff on Wednesday in a Grants Pass neighborhood when SWAT officers deployed irritant canisters into a crawlspace that led felony suspect Barney Clem, who had threatened a woman with a knife and sprayed her with bear spray, to surrender—he now faces charges including menacing, unlawful use of a weapon and use of mace while another man was arrested for a parole violation and meth possession.  KDRV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After months of uncertainty, the County’s Board of Commissioners voted to let Commissioner Barnett negotiate directly with the library district over the Grants Pass library lease, which was put in doubt when the lease was abruptly ended on January 6. Library leaders and community groups say they expect quick action to secure the building’s future (a move that comes amid mounting public pressure).  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • The City of Grants Pass is accepting applications to fill two vacancies on its Urban Tree Advisory Committee for two-year terms, allowing residents to help shape the city’s tree policies and programs. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on July 3—submissions will be reviewed on July 14 and final appointments will be made at a City Council meeting on August 6.  The Grants Pass Tribune

  • Hidden Valley’s Emily Callas won the girls’ golf competition at the Laurel Hill Invitation—the final regular season meet for the Rogue River teams. Callas’s sister Grace placed second and Rogue River’s Delilah Jaramillo finished third.  Rogue River Press
