  • The Grants Pass Police Department will host a Drug Take Back Event on Saturday, April 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the police parking lot at 726 NE 7th Street to help residents safely discard unwanted prescription medications—participants should remove personal information from labels and note that vapes, inhalers, IV solutions, injectables, and syringes are not accepted.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Grants Pass High School rallied behind 18-year-old Tasha, who battled stage 4 neuroblastoma since her January 2024 diagnosis, by organizing events and a coin drive that raised $2,465.45—supporting her ongoing treatment and showing the strength of her school community.  KDRV
  • Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week in Josephine County honors two full-time officers — who have handled nearly 1,000 service calls across 1,642 square miles — for protecting animals and residents as community needs grow.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • The PATH General Meeting took place Tuesday, April 22nd at 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at Grants Pass City Council Chambers at 101 NW A Street and featured Marcia Sandoval of Ontrack Rogue Valley discussing housing support and PATH updates—community members were invited to bring non-perishable food items for the Josephine County Food Bank.  The Grants Pass Tribune

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out Monday morning just after 3:00 a.m. at a two-story home on the 4700 block of Cloverlawn Drive where smoke alarms alerted residents and helped four people escape safely—though two dogs did not survive and the cause is under investigation.  KOBI-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Law enforcement intercepted almost 150,000 lethal doses of fentanyl that was headed to Grants Pass—officers from local, state, and federal agencies seized more than 10 ounces and the investigation remains ongoing.  KDRV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Sacred Ground Land Trust and Spiral Living Center will host two workshops in Cave Junction on May 17 and May 18 to teach waterscaping techniques for creating wildfire-defensible landscapes. Homeowners, renters, realtors, government employees, farmers, and landscaping professionals can learn practical methods and receive take-home resources to protect their properties from wildfires.  The Grants Pass Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A member of the Grants Pass Friends of the Library filed a petition with county commissioners to start talks with the Josephine Community Library District after the branch library’s lease was terminated in January—Matthew Hoff, who started the petition with support from others, said officials must reply within five days and offer a resolution within 60 days—as the library remains in limbo.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rogue Regional Medical Center has broken ground on the third phase of its expansion to build six new cardiac catheterization labs and 30 prep and recovery rooms—this project will improve heart care for Southern Oregon patients.  The Grants Pass Tribune
