COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today through April 26, the Medicine Show Revival is held in Riverside Park—this seven-day festival features workshops, live performances and family activities to build community connections. Sunday, April 20 will host the main gathering with an Easter Egg Hunt at 12:00 p.m. and a community picnic at 5:00 p.m.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • The Grants Pass and Josephine County Chamber of Commerce will launch the free Concerts in the Park summer series on June 10 featuring live music, food trucks, and family activities at Riverside Park every Tuesday evening until July 15 except on July 1. The concerts will take place in the Pavilion area while the permanent Bandshell is under construction — local sponsors and volunteers support the move — and the series will offer performances by regional bands.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Josephine County’s Granite Hill Cemetery has unveiled columbarium walls that offer families a respectful option for placing cremated remains in a historic setting—enhancing the 40-acre site along Upper River Road while honoring its long pioneer legacy. The cemetery, managed by the county Parks and Recreation Department, now provides an enduring memorial space for local residents.  The Grants Pass Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • FBI arrested Medford businessman Joel Caswell on Friday and charged him with over 20 federal financial crimes—including wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and tax evasion—and he posted bail while surrendering his passport just hours later.  KOBI-TV
  • James Ross, a 30-year-old Grants Pass resident, was arrested by local police on April 13 at Robertson Bridge Boat Landing for second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon—he is now held at Josephine County Jail.  Rogue River Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Josephine Community Library will celebrate Día de los Niños with a week-long series of bilingual storytimes and crafts that include Spanish, Japanese, and ASL—events held at its four branches from April 24 through April 30—and are free to all families.  The Grants Pass Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents can celebrate Earth Day today by volunteering on Bear Creek Greenway from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to pick up trash, pull weeds, and plant new plants. Other events include kids' activities and live music at Blue Heron Park from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. — and free waste drop-off for large items at transfer stations until 3:00 p.m.  KOBI-TV
  • Pollinator Project Rogue Valley is working to restore pesticide-free corridors to help native pollinators thrive in our area—Pollinator Project president Kristina Lefever spoke on Sunrise this morning about the initiative. The group will host a native plant sale on Sunday, April 27th at its North Main Street location and a Picnic for Pollinator Pals at Arpeggio Vineyard and Sunflower Farm on June 21st.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officer Peyton Collins returned home today after graduating from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Academy and will begin a field training program (guided by experienced officers) to learn local patrol duties (marking a new phase in his law enforcement career).  The Grants Pass Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Southern Oregon family will row 157 miles of the Rogue River on April 25 to raise funds for their 6 year old son William’s treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy — a rare life threatening disease. They have raised over $400,000 so far — supporters pledge $5,000 per mile to reach an $800,000 goal.  KDRV
