Good morning, Grants Pass.

A new bill in the Oregon Legislature would add a sales tax on alcohol to pay for youth substance abuse prevention programs.

The tax will start at 2% in 2026 and rise to 8% by 2032 — local craft breweries and wineries worry of its impact while state officials plan to fund schools, health departments, and nonprofits.

Governor Tina Kotek launched the Housing 360 pilot program to help unsheltered people with mental health issues using $3.4 million from OHCS—money that will fund local service providers—and the program will work with local partners to offer housing and support services in select communities in the coming months.

A group of volunteers is preparing to open Recovery Café Grants Pass—a new community space for people facing trauma, addiction, homelessness and mental health challenges.

They will hold a New Member Orientation on April 29 to kick off free, peer-led support services while seeking a permanent location and additional help.
