COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents, families and community members gathered at The Suites Assisted Living for a barbecue fundraiser to support the annual Halloween trick or treating celebration for local children, with Not Yo Mommas Cooking BBQ serving slow-smoked pulled pork and brisket amid a strong turnout.  The Grants Pass Tribune

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Wildfire mitigation efforts are driving up home maintenance and insurance costs for Southern Oregon residents including those in Grants Pass. Local agencies have accelerated preparedness measures while funding delays add uncertainty — residents now face immediate financial burdens to improve fire safety.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Horizon Air will close its Medford crew base at Rogue Valley International at the end of May, moving 78 crew members to other cities (a move in line with a shift to larger hubs); passenger flights will continue on regular routes.  The Grants Pass Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Henley High robotics team won the Excellence Award on March 7 at Mt. Hood Community College and will represent the school at the VEX Robotics World Championship in St. Louis (April 21-24).  KDRV

  • Homeowners in Southern Oregon can lower high summer energy bills by adjusting thermostat settings, cleaning filters, and closing blinds to keep cool air in — these steps are designed to lessen the load on air conditioners without sacrificing comfort.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Grants Pass is launching a project with OUR Community Forestry to plant 150 climate-resilient shade trees in underserved neighborhoods this spring & host public planting events in the fall to cool homes, improve air quality, and provide local intern training.  The Grants Pass Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grants Pass is running its street sweeping schedule from March 29 to April 4 with crews sweeping daily between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in designated zones. Residents must remove vehicles and trash bins to clear debris — a key step to prevent stormwater pollution.  The Grants Pass Tribune
