Good morning, Grants Pass. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 1st of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Grants Pass faces a homelessness crisis as local leaders and community groups argue over lasting help while current legal rulings let unhoused people sleep in public spaces—temporary fixes replace a coordinated plan.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Illinois Valley Fire mourned employees Dale Sandberg and Gerry Bjornstad, who died from medical complications on Monday morning, Fire Chief John Holmes said—additional details on support services for their families will be provided soon.  KDRV

CRIME NEWS

  • Grants Pass and Josephine County have seen more thefts, home and business break-ins, and car thefts—local police say the property crime rate is much higher than the national average and advise residents to use alarms, cameras, and better locks while reporting suspicious activity.  The Grants Pass Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jackson County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol is cleaning hazards such as fallen trees and debris from the Rogue River in preparation for more spring recreation — the agency warns that while warmer weather increases water flows, the water remains cold.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • OnTrack Rogue Valley is expanding its services today in Grants Pass by launching an emergency lodging program and an outpatient treatment facility to support those needing temporary housing and substance use treatment. The lodging program provides 12 single occupancy rooms (ADA accessible with shared amenities and on-site case management), and the outpatient facility will offer care for substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorders.  KOBI-TV
