  • The Rogue Valley Community Organizations Active in Disaster—RV COAD—has helped Jackson and Josephine counties by providing shelter, water, and volunteer shifts during emergencies such as the Shady Cove water crisis. The group will work with local officials to offer more support in the upcoming fire season.  KDRV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Over the past three months, Spectrum raised phone service rates by $2 to $4 and increased basic internet prices from $40 to nearly $100 per month—pushing local bills higher. Josephine County residents now face more expensive monthly costs as Spectrum, the main provider, continues this trend.  The Grants Pass Tribune

  • Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant and SWAT Team Commander Lt. Dave Penkava retired Friday after 25 years of service; he began his career as a Corrections Deputy in 1997 and worked his way up to lead the SWAT team—his final radio call advised officers to care for themselves and each other.  KOBI-TV
  • A Josephine County Judge granted a preliminary injunction requested by Disability Rights Oregon after a Tuesday hearing and Friday afternoon ruling, stopping Grants Pass from prosecuting campers except at Riverside Park and Reinhardt Volunteer Park until the city boosts camping capacity to 150 and provides accessible routes—she said she would decide fully before DRO’s temporary restraining order expired today.  KOBI-TV
  • The Oregon Health Authority said every county and all nine federally recognized tribal communities in Oregon will face a $117 million cut in funding from HHS—money pulled through the CDC and SAMHSA. The loss will affect COVID-era grants for vaccine-preventable disease work and community substance use treatment—changes that come as HHS also plans to cut about 10,000 full-time jobs nationwide.  KOBI-TV

  • Federal health agencies withdrew $117 million in COVID relief funding from the Oregon Health Authority, ending support for programs that aided mental health, substance abuse, and community health during the pandemic.
