ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, a report by U.S. bird conservation groups shows bird numbers dropping across the nation and southern Oregon is part of that trend as western forest birds fell by over 50% and grassland species lost over 40% since 1970. Conservation efforts will focus on restoring oak woodlands and protecting species like Lewis’s Woodpecker and Rufous Hummingbird—measures include safer windows and native plantings.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Tina Kotek declared a state of emergency on March 18 due to flooding and landslides that affected many counties, caused one fatality, and damaged roads, prompting the Oregon Department of Transportation to begin repairing federal aid highways with over $10 million in damage while urging residents to follow evacuation instructions.  Medford Alert
  • Flooding from a recent storm damaged culverts on Livingston Way in Grants Pass, and crews from Josephine County Public Works began repairs Wednesday morning by compacting gravel and fixing pipe damage caused by high water levels.
