  • Heavy rain flooded SW Larch Rd today—Ana Davis was alerted by her fiancé’s grandmother and drove through nearly one foot of water, which left her car and four others with significant damage while neighbors urge a city review of drainage and infrastructure.  KDRV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Over the weekend, a strong storm caused flooding, landslides, and downed trees in Southern Oregon, affecting properties in West Medford near Griffin Creek and disrupting travel on several highways. ODOT crews—along with Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, which evacuated residents and pets—are working to repair roads today as further rain is forecast.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County leaders faced high costs as a low-trust work environment spurred secret audits, firings and extra spending—costing millions so far. An internal investigation and policy breaches have raised concerns over future lawsuits.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Rep. Dwayne Yunker read an explicit passage from the book The Haters on the House floor Monday to protest Senate Bill 1098, the Freedom to Read Act that bans book restrictions. Fellow representative Kevin Mannix stopped the reading and said it was lascivious and obscene.  KDRV
  • Oregon lawmakers are considering three bills—SB 819, SB 820, and SB 821—that will change how sex offenders are classified to reduce a backlog while raising public safety concerns. Residents are urged to stay informed and share their views at upcoming public hearings.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Oregon DMV offices are getting more than twice the usual number of REAL ID appointments as the May 7th deadline nears, even though travelers with accepted federal IDs can still fly. Officials advise those 18 and older to schedule appointments early—allowing up to three weeks for the card to arrive—to avoid delays.  KDRV
  • John Oliver Riccio of the Grants Pass Tribune filed a tort complaint against Josephine County and Commissioner Chris Barnett, accusing him of tortious interference, defamation, and First Amendment violations. The complaint alleges Barnett used county resources to create misleading media pages—one mimicking the Tribune and another forming a competing outlet—and seeks $701,300 in damages with corrective actions to be met within 15 days.  The Grants Pass Tribune
