- ➤ Grants Pass residents will see local teens present innovative designs for a new community library during the Teen Library Design Showcase at the Josephine Community Library in downtown this Saturday, March 14. - ➤ Saturday's 16th annual Girls Rock STEM event in Grants Pass offered 200 girls aged nine to 13 nine hands-on workshops, such as drone flying and birdhouse making — the event was free and organized by three local women's groups dedicated to sparking interest in science, technology, engineering, and math. - ➤ Southern Oregon University received $15 million in state funding — funds allocated by the Higher Education Coordinating Commission to stabilize its budget for the current biennium — after House Bill 5204 passed Friday. KOBI-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ ODOT reported that the I-5 southbound ramp at Exit 58 closed overnight from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting March 9 and will remain closed for about one week to allow road widening, guardrail upgrades, and vegetation trimming (detours are in place for drivers to reach Grants Pass). KOBI-TV
- ➤ Congressman Cliff Bentz met with U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer on March 4 at the Capitol to discuss unstable trade policies affecting Oregon agriculture — Bentz urged that federal officials support local producers for commodities such as potatoes, cherries, and grapes by gathering business feedback.
