EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Oregon State University Extension Service is hosting a free animal science training for Josephine County youth on March 14; the training will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Learning Center (215 Ringuette Street) and is led by State 4-H Animal Science Coordinator Candi Bothum. KDRV
- ➤ The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Rogue Valley will open a new teen center on Washington Blvd this fall to expand its free after-school programs and provide spaces for recording podcasts, cooking for Junior Chefs’ Club, classes, and social activities (funded by an anonymous local donor). KOBI-TV
- ➤ Ten high school students from St. Mary’s School began a six-week internship at Valley Immediate Care in Medford last month to learn healthcare skills in orthopedics, urgent care, and dermatology. Next week, they will move to Rogue Valley Manor for more rotations — advancing their career exploration. KOBI-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Federal changes now require SNAP recipients to show they are working, seeking work, or attending training in order to keep their benefits. Local WorkSource Oregon centers offer free help with job searches and training. Rogue River Press
- ➤ Grants Pass approved Parker’s Place Village emergency shelter project on March 4 for 150 beds at 218 and 220 Redwood Highway—meeting court-ordered capacity needs. The facility, operated by Alternative Living Solutions, Inc. and MINT, will offer on-site services to connect residents with longer-term housing options. The Grants Pass Tribune
