COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Snowmobile users are concerned about unauthorized vehicles driving on trails near Diamond Lake and Crater Lake as sparse snow stops the nonprofit-led OSSA from building berms, so Search and Rescue with the forest service is working to block roads and reduce hazards.  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chef Josh Dorcak was named a semifinalist for the James Beard Awards for the fourth year in a row, bringing national culinary attention to the Rogue Valley. He now teams with Cowhorn Kitchen in Jacksonville where the restaurant is open Thursday through Monday and serves dishes infused with regional flavors.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Josephine County Sheriff's Office will host its annual Search and Rescue Academy at 250 Tech Way from Feb. 17 to Mar. 15. Sessions run Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6–9 p.m.) and Saturday (8 a.m.–5 p.m.); volunteers must pay $55 and clear background checks to serve.  KDRV
  • With temperatures dropping below freezing, the Oregon State Fire Marshal reminds residents to check heating equipment to prevent fires; the agency has investigated 10 home fires since January 1. Homeowners are urged to follow fire safety tips to stay safe.  Rogue River Press
