COMMUNITY NEWS

  • PATH will hold a general meeting Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, where community members learn about efforts to address homelessness and veteran employment from Gail Bashans + bring food donations for the Josephine County Food Bank.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • Kelly’s Automotive is offering free new wiper blades for donations of peanut butter and jelly at its Medford and Grants Pass locations; the event runs from Jan. 5 to Feb. 13 and helps local food banks (Salvation Army and ROC Food Pantry).  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Camelot Theatre in Talent kicked off its 2026 season last Wednesday with a tribute to Aretha Franklin (running until Feb. 8) while Oregon Cabaret Theatre in Ashland will open its 41st season on Jan. 23 with Ken Ludwig’s Sherwood and later productions including Chicago and Dracula.  KOBI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Salvitore Campione, a Rogue Community College student, was selected as one of seven nominees for the 2025–26 All-USA Community College Academic Team (representing his school) in Grants Pass.  Rogue River Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The BLM in Medford opened a public comment period on the Cedar Flat Forest Management Project aimed at reducing wildfire risk near Williams. Residents may submit input by January 25 to help improve forest health (through targeted thinning and safety measures) for the local ecosystem.  The Grants Pass Tribune
  • The 29th annual Great Backyard Bird Count is a free global event that helps scientists track bird populations. Grants Pass residents can join by counting birds in their backyards from Feb. 13-16.  Rogue River Press

FINANCE NEWS

  • Taxpayers are urged to file electronic returns and request direct deposit refunds to claim their share of Oregon’s $1.41 billion kicker more quickly. Filing electronically speeds refund processing, making it a faster way to receive your money.  Rogue River Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Oregon Health Authority is urging residents to get screened for cervical cancer during Cervical Cancer Awareness Month by offering free screenings (early detection saves lives) in our community.  Rogue River Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mt. Ashland has paused its ski season indefinitely starting Jan. 15 due to low snowpack and warm weather. Guests with lift tickets, rentals, or lessons will receive full refunds and School Group Program participants will be contacted about rescheduling when conditions improve.  The Grants Pass Tribune
